This section is devoted to images that I have taken in the past that have some
meaning as either personal or just plain photographic. I won't bore you with long download
times, so simply click on the description that yanks your chain and take a look. Most
images are between 25 and 75 Kbytes in size.
This first series of images are in color. They represent a few personal moments
and are simply meant to give some insight to my personality. I took a trip one day many
years ago, while still living on St. Croix. Actually I was home sick and bored stiff so I
made this image to send as postcard to my stateside friends. All that it said on the back
was "My Summer
vacation in Nicaragua" St. Croix was where I saw this sign posted
at the entrance to a playground. Now did they really know what they meant to say or was
this just a subtle misinterpretation on my part? Sometimes my scuba diving pays off. There
are not a lot of easy pickings around the reefs that I dove, but sometimes the spiny
lobster come out and beckon to be taken. This was a rare, but enjoyable meal of lobster and conch fritters. Are you
bored yet? Ok just one last image in this series.
The next series of images where taken on St. Croix and in Pensacola, FL.
The following black & white photos were used in a photography class that I
attended at the University of West Florida back in 1992. I did the darkroom work myself to
learn the process, but the main objective of the class was to view the images as art forms
and not so much for the technical rendering protocols. The digitizing process may have
degraded the images a bit, but I am sure that you wouldn't be in the mood to download a
500 Kbytes image just for curiosity's sake. So these highly compressed images are what I
chose to show you instead.
This first image is the profile of a friend of mine on St. Croix.
Henzial Daniel was the maintenance worker at the radar
site that we worked at. He was always ready for a photo-op. This next image shows the
rustic old buildings that sometimes looked better in b/w
than in color. I did find some interesting images in Pensacola; besides I couldn't keep
using old negatives to support my class work forever could I? I photographed this
cannon
to demonstrate depth of field. Perspective was the next single word that came from my
professor's lips so I needed to show how objects appear larger than life by using the
correct technique. This house is a model of what once was the home of an early
19th century trading company tycoon who lived along the Pensacola Bay waterfront. The iron
fence is 3 feet tall. the lamp in the upper right hand corner background is about 50 feet
high and the model home is about 6 feet high by perhaps 10 feet wide. That is
perspective...remember that! Another assignment called for locating and capturing an image
that reflects age or a bygone past. I found a few passenger rail cars
that had been left to decay in an older section of Pensacola. Did I get the assignment
correct? This next image is my favorite! I was told to go out and capture action! I
actually stumbled across this little guy while resting my bones in a park near the bayou
three blocks from my house. A really happy kid...and
the sea gulls were happy that he was there too!
I hope that you enjoyed these images. I did this simply to give you a little
something to look at and to enjoy.
